At In-TAC’s Career Expo 2014
Ottawa, September 11th, 2014
The International Talent Acquisition Centre (In-TAC) will host its 2nd annual Career Expo for IT and Finance Professionals, Wednesday, October 8th at the Ottawa Convention Centre. More than 1,000 job-seekers are expected to attend.
In-TAC’s Career Expo 2014 builds on the success of its first career expo held last fall which drew approximately 600 participants and 17 employer partners. Dozens of private and public sector companies and organizations have already booked their space at this year’s event. They include the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), Scotia Bank, Kivuto Solutions Inc., Royal Bank of Canada, Halogen Software, Macadamian, Robert Half Canada, JPMorgan Chase Bank and the RCMP, just to name a few.
This year’s career expo has expanded its focus with the addition of In-TAC’s Entrepreneurs Corner. “Sometimes, the best job is the one you create yourself,” says Ying Xie, In-TAC’s Senior Manager. “We’ve invited several business development programs that can help new entrepreneurs get started and succeed.” In-TAC’s Entrepreneurs Corner will include the Ontario Self-Employment Benefits Program, Ottawa Community Loan Fund, Invest Ottawa, Carleton University’s business development program, Lead to Win, and Technology Innovation Management (TIM), the University’s Master’s program for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Chris Alexander, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, will officially open In-TAC’s Career Expo 2014 Wednesday, October 8th at 9:30 a.m. at the Ottawa Convention Centre, 55 Colonel By Drive. The event runs until 2:00 p.m.
In-TAC, the employment services division of the Ottawa Chinese Community Services Centre (OCCSC), brings together Canadian companies with highly skilled international professionals with a global view. Its mission is to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) fill their expertise gaps and help newcomers find jobs in their field. OCCSC’s Board President Jonas Ma notes that “An increasing number of employers participate in the initiatives of our employment services with win-win results for the employers and our job-seeking clients.” Sharon Kan, OCCSC’s Executive Director concurs, “We work with over 400 SMEs who act as our employment partners in Ottawa and we have a 70% placement rate matching IEPs in their IT and accounting professions”.
